MIPTV’s 50th edition was held from 08-11th April, 2013 in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès – an already familiar surrounding for recurring participants.
Booth 11.02/13.01 harboured Terra Mater Factual Studios, ServusTV and the Red Bull Media House and proved to be a place of continual coming and going, successful meetings and relaxed atmosphere.
For some participants, MIP 2013 started even earlier: Saturday, 6th April, 2013, saw the kick-off for Terra Mater Factual Studios’ Head of TV Sabine Holzer, participating in MIPDoc’s ’THE BUYERS’ SUMMIT: Leading International Buyers Reveal their Programming Strategies’. Generously provided by the organisers, you can watch the whole session here.
A get-together with friends, fellow producers and film makers alike was the traditional Terra Mater Factual Studios’ dinner prior to the major market, held on Sunday, 7th April, 2013.
Arranged at L’Amandier, a restaurant in the heart of the picturesque mediaeval village of Mougins, close to 100 guests enjoyed a delightful evening. The festivity came to an end not until well past midnight.
After extending a warm welcome, Walter Köhler, CEO of TMFS, gave a short presentation of TMFS’ work over the past two years. Between courses, a sound quiz was held to challenge the attendees’ acoustic knowledge, with Laurent Flahault (France Télévision) as the lucky winner. Congratulations!
As the evening progressed, the nightly-lit bay of Cannes offered a spectacular view. The pleasant evening heralded the start of four succesful days filled with intriguing and interesting meetings.
Demanding, but also prosperous: the jubilee edition of MIPTV in 2013 turned out to be one of the most successful markets according to Köhler, long-time attendee, who was very pleased with this year’s outcome.
Around a dozen new TMFS-productions were presented at this year’s media market. All in all, the approximately 25 in-house productions were selling fast and well. Contracts of about 300-400 hours of programming will bring the content of the Vienna-based production company on screens all around the globe.
Best-selling titles of MIPTV 2013 proved to be the science-documentaries. ’Eyes of the Atacama’, ’Meteor Menace’, ’Genius of Nature’ (a co-production of TMFS/Oxford Scientific Films/BBC), and the brand-new co-production of TMFS with Oxford Scientific Films and Channel 4, ’Stonehenge – Bringing back the Dead’ were big sellers and acquired by France, Italy, Spain, England, Scandinavia, Canada and Russia. Further deals saw packages off to Iran, South America and China.
