‘Sea of Shadows’ wins US Nature Film ‘Oscar’ at Jackson Wild

Jackson Hole/Vienna. Jackson Wild Media Awards have announced this year’s winners, and Terra Mater Factual Studios are proud to present their awards for ‘Sea of Shadows’ as ‘Best Theatrical Film’ and ‘Sex, Lies and Butterflies’ as ‘Best Writing Film’.

To get the prestigious award for  the ‘Best Theatrical Film’ amongst all 1000 submissions was the peak of this year’s Grand Teton Award Gala for the team of Terra Mater Factual Studios. ‘Sea of Shadows’ was able to prevail against ‘Free Solo’, which received the Oscar as the best documentary film at the Academy Awards® earlier this year. The Eco-Thriller unveils the truth behind poaching activities in the Sea of Cortez/Mexico, that bring the Vaquita Marina, the most elusive whale on Earth, to the very brink of extinction.

A very special award was given to one of ‘Sea of Shadows’ most important character: Andrea Crosta, executive director and co-founder of Earth League International (ELI), was honored with the ‘Conservation Hero Award’ for his relentlessness in his mission to protect wildlife through undercover investigations around the world. The investigation depicted in ‘Sea of Shadows’ targets Chinese traders in Mexico, and because it also involves the drug cartels, it was one of the most dangerous he has ever conducted.

The ‘Best Writing Film’ category was completely dominated by Terra Mater documentaries: 3/3 nominations went to TMFS. Therefore, this award was no bombshell, but notwithstanding a big success for the team. ‘Sex, Lies and Butterflies’ earns the win, highlighting the amazing survival techniques of moths, butterflies and caterpillars and the new science that is unlocking the secrets of their world.
