Wild Vienna: A Celebration of Wildlife and Sustainability
We are thrilled to announce that Wild Vienna has been honoured with the Austrian Ecolabel, recognizing its commitment to environmentally conscious filmmaking. This documentary not only highlights the astonishing biodiversity of Vienna but also sets a new standard for sustainability in film production.
Vienna, often celebrated for its rich history and vibrant culture, is also a haven for wildlife. From foxes prowling city parks to kestrels nesting in historic buildings, and even European hamsters thriving in urban green spaces, the city is a remarkable blend of nature and urban life. Our mission with Wild Vienna was to showcase this unique harmony while ensuring our production left as little impact on the environment as possible.
How We Filmed with Sustainability in Mind
- Local Crew & Resources: By hiring locally, our team avoided unnecessary travel, staying in their own homes and bringing meals in reusable containers. This
eliminated the need for hotels and minimized waste.
- Public Transportation: All travel within Vienna was done using the city’s efficient public transportation network, reducing carbon emissions significantly.
- Battery-Powered Equipment: Outdoor shoots relied on rechargeable batteries, avoiding the use of generators. Natural sunlight was used whenever possible.
- Zero-Waste Practices: Waste was minimized through recycling, reusable materials, and careful planning. No trash was left behind at any filming location.
- Eco-Friendly Post-Production: Data was stored sustainably on green-powered servers, and all equipment in our production office meets international environmental standards.
A Message for the Future
Winning the Austrian Ecolabel is more than just an award—it’s a reminder that creative industries have the power to make a difference. Every step we took to minimize our footprint reinforced our belief that storytelling and sustainability go hand in hand.
We’re incredibly proud of what Wild Vienna represents: a love letter to one of the world’s most biodiverse cities and a testament to what’s possible when filmmaking prioritizes the planet.
Thank you to our amazing team, the city of Vienna, and all the creatures who made this documentary so special. Together, we’ve proven that we can celebrate nature while protecting it.
